Jacqui Hadingham

Jacqui is a National Services Manager who works with the Services team to coordinate service provision for collaborators and clients.  Jacqui has experience in service delivery improvement, and has worked internationally with teams on a range of research and implementation projects.  She is a certified project manager and has an MSc in Applied Biology from London University.

Becky is the Scientific Advisor for NZ Genomics and a primary point of contact for new and existing Clients. Becky has been part of the NZ Genomics team for two years and prior to this was pivotal in the establishment of the Otago Genomics & Bioinformatics Facility and providing daily oversight of Client projects. Becky now applies her knowledge of current genomics techniques, technologies and expertise within the NZ Genomics team to provide Clients with project advice in line with their specific requirements. Becky additionally supports the Business Development Manager to establish new opportunities and services. Becky has an Applied Biology Degree from Bath University (UK), PhD from the University of East Anglia (UK) and 8 years of post-doctoral experience for the University of Otago specialising in plant molecular biology.

Jackie McBride

Jackie is the National Services Co-ordinator and is the first point of contact for all clients contacting New Zealand Genomics Ltd for any new enquiries.  Jackie is able to utilise her extensive experience in finance and administration when working with clients to finalise their contracts.  She has worked at New Zealand Genomics for five years so has a sound knowledge of all processes.

Shane Sturrock is a computational biologist who works with the NZGL team to support their work on Bio-IT. Shane believes in providing the best possible platform for biologists to achieve their research aims.
Shane has supported multiple clients on the Bio-IT platform over the last five years.
Shane is a trained molecular biologist with 30 years of computational biology experience as a system administrator, software developer and researcher in high performance biocomputing. Shane holds a Ph.D in Molecular Biology from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland.

Kathryn is the Contracts Administrator in our Services Team. She co-ordinates all of the behind the scenes administration on NZ Genomics contracts both with clients and with service providers, as well as providing backup for the National Services Co-Ordinator when needed. Kathryn brings her many years of experience problem solving with clients, together with a background in finance and policy analysis to help ensure the NZ Genomics service runs smoothly. Kathryn has a BSc(Hons) in Chemistry from Cardiff University

Anthony is the Business Development Manager who works with clients to help them get the service they want when they need it and believes that the customer experience is the key measure of our success as an organisation. Anthony was responsible for introducing multiuse contracting allowing organisations to simplify the way they do business with NZGenomics and has assisted clients to resolve project issues when they have arisen. Anthony has a wide range of experience in the research and health sectors gained from his previous roles with crown research institutes, start-up biotech and large multinationals.

Sandy Baines

Sandy has a background in Information and Technology Management and technical engineering, together with formal qualifications in business and project management. Her business consulting experience covers many different sectors including Finance and Banking, Local Government, Health and not for profit (NFP) sectors. She has worked alongside numerous organisations at a strategic level to develop plans to leverage technology and effect positive change to improve service delivery and performance.
Sandy founded Platinum Services Group, a successful Auckland based project management company that specialised in large scale business ICT projects, capability assessments and organisational capability audits. Sandy has also held several high profile Project Director and IT Management roles where she has been responsible for strategy development and management of large programs of work for change.

Julianne is an Executive Assistant who provides administration support to the Chief Executive and Board of NZ Genomics. She believes that providing confidential, professional executive support helps to ensure that NZ Genomics runs as efficiently as possible. Julianne has worked for NZ Genomics since February 2017, having previously worked in both Health and Education sectors in Dunedin and Wellington. She is the first point of contact for the CE and Board. Julianne has a BA in Politics and English from Otago University.

Pip is a Finance Administrator who works with Stephen Craig-Pearson for the smooth running of NZGL’s finance team. Pip handles the processing of all creditors and debtors, general financial administration task and is helping to improve internal finance processes. Pip works at NZGL on a part time basis as she also is an Assistant Manager at a local chartered accounting firm. Pip is a Chartered Accountant with a BCom and DipGrad in Accounting and Economics from the University of Otago.

Debbie Broodkoorn

Debbie Broodkoorn is a Change Manager who works with Anna Smith and the rest of the NZGL Shared Services team to introduce business and technology related change. Debbie believes change is a vital component in all organisations and effective change management minimises the disruptions change initiatives can bring.  She has worked with NZGL since October 2016, initially on the Office365 project (helping to roll out the new SharePoint Contract Management site)  and more recently as part of the Transition Project team. Debbie is a Business Analyst/Project Manager with over 20 years experience, primarily in the Banking and Insurance sectors.  Debbie holds a Bachelor of Social Science Degree from Waikato University.

Chris Heath

Chris is a workflow specialist who brings clarity to NZ Genomic’s operations. Chris not only documents existing workflows (current reality), he assists businesses with the documentation and development of new service workflows. Documented workflows provide a sound basis for discussion and agreement on the standardisation of service delivery, and mitigate the uncontrolled changes that add risk to an organisation. Documented workflows and methods of work are an important first step when working towards a process of continual improvement. Chris has over twenty years experience as a documentation specialist. His academic achievements, which include a Bachelor of Science (Botany) from Massey University, Master of Philosophy (Architecture) from Auckland University, National Diploma in Architectural Technology and Certificate in Adult Teaching (both from UNITEC), have all helped Chris develop and apply a ‘Systems Thinking’ approach to his work.

Nic Mair

Nic is the ICT Manager who works with NZ Genomics customers and suppliers who provide the NZ Genomics BioIT platform, as well as many internal NZ Genomics IT solutions. Nic believes that a well-functioning BioIT capability and supporting IT systems are essential in delivering quality research, as data analysts underpins research, and data requirements continue to grow. Nic has worked at NZ Genomics for almost 2 years, and is able to provide advice and to researchers and clients on the use of, or the deployment of BioIT capability
Nic has worked in the ICT sector across many varied areas, most recently was the IT Manager at AgResearch working and providing very similar services and support to within the research community that NZ Genomics provides.

Anna believes that preparation and communication are the keys to implementing successful projects.
Anna has assisted in implementing and support of the NZ Genomics SharePoint library to provide access to a centralised document library for the wider NZ Genomics team.Anna is a qualified PRINCE2 Practitioner and has a certificate in Business Administration

Russell Smithies

Bio-IT Support Specialist

Russell SmithiesRussell Smithies

Russell is a Bio-IT Support Specialist who works with the NZ Genomics servers and storage infrastructure. He joined NZGL in 2016 after working for AgResearch for 13 years in various IT technical roles, most recently as a Linux Solutions Consultant managing their High Performance Computing environment and storage platform. Russell is an experienced UNIX administrator and software developer with a BSc in Computer Science from the University of Otago.

Graham Crombie

Independent Chair

Graham is a chartered accountant and independent director based in Dunedin. He is a past President and current Chair of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants and sits on the joint Australia/New Zealand Chartered Accountants Board. Graham chairs the Dunedin City Holding Company Ltd and Dunedin City Treasury Ltd, Otago Museum and Action Engineering. He is also a director of Surf Life Saving New Zealand and a trustee for the Kokiri Centre and the Orokonui Foundation Trust.

Nicola Williams

Nicola is a Dunedin-based Barrister, specialising in family law. She is a past Deputy Chair of the New Zealand Law Society Family Law Section executive and current Chair of the St Hilda's Collegiate School Board of Trustees.

Distinguished Professor Bill Denny

Distinguished Professor Bill Denny is Co-Director of the Auckland Cancer Society Research Centre and a Principal Investigator in the Maurice Wilkins Centre, University of Auckland. He is a Director of ESR, and a scientific co-founder of Proacta Inc. He has experience in drug development, and is a Past-President of the NZ Institute of Chemistry and the NZ Society for Oncology, and a Rutherford Medallist of the Royal Society of NZ.

Professor Richard Blaikie

Richard is a Professor in Physics and University of Otago Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Enterprise). He has a BSc (Hons) from Otago and a PhD in physics from the University of Cambridge. Richard was a visiting scientist at the Hitachi Cambridge Laboratory, investigating single-electron transport effects in semiconductor nanostructures, before returning to New Zealand in 1993 to take up a position at the University of Canterbury. From 2008 to 2011, he was director of the MacDiarmid Institute for Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology. Richard’s research field is applied electromagnetics.

Professor Simon Hall

Simon is head of Massey University’s Institute of Fundamental Sciences and Principal Investigator with the MacDiarmid Institute for Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology. He has significant experience in the commercialisation of science and, alongside his academic commitments, is Chief Technical Officer for Synthodics Ltd – a company he co-established with Massey University and colleagues to commercialise an energy storage application. In 2010, Simon was made a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, UK.
